Additional Realty

Before and after the demolition...

A week ago, I had part of the house demolished. It was an extension of the kitchen around 10 feet by 12 feet, that was closed off from the house since we had a functioning kitchen inside and did not need an extension or "dirty kitchen" It was literally dirty because it's just a low and dark room with a sink formed with cement, blackened walls because of soot from the charcoal stove, and there's no ceiling so it's quite hot during the day. A door separates it from inside the house, which I closed off years ago to prevent mice and cockroaches from entering the house. The dirty kitchen was converted into a stock room or garage for stuff we hardly use.

Over the years it housed dad's old air-conditioner, grandma's wheelchairs, and walker, gas tanks, bikes, lumber, paints, bikes, etc. So much has accumulated in it that it became a breeding ground for innumerable insects like spiders and mosquitoes since water pools in the floor whenever the water tank fills or rain pours down. Generally, it has been a dark spot outside the house that nobody wants to enter in fear of getting crawled on by insects.

It took two men just a day to empty the little room, knock the walls and sink down, and tear the roof off. The sun finally shined on that part of realty that has been in gloom for years. We donated the wheelchairs, walkers, and canes to the needy in church sold the old and non-functioning air-conditioner for scrap, and disposed of all other stuff that we considered garbage. We got rid of all the shelves and then transferred all the house wiring terminating in individual circuit breakers (located in that room) into a commonplace housed within a breaker box. Now we have a little more realty in front of the house to move around in. More space for the plants too, so we lined them up along the new inner floor space created by the torn down room.
